Freedom Fighters

Mahatma Gandhi:

Mahatma Gandhi is a revolutionary who helped India gain their independence and remove the full control of England. He’s known for his passive ressistance protest (using no violence) Gandhi was a freedom fighter, an advocate, a journalist and a philosopher. His protests was successful.

When the Indians were lacking salt, they needed to harvest salt. Although, it seemed unfair to pay tax for harvesting salt. This even greatly affected those who were short on money. So the Salt March had arrived. Gandhi lead alot of Indians to harvest salt without paying tax. Resisting by disobeying.

He had influenced MLK, Nelson Mandela and many more.

MLK is very known in America for the famous speech he had made “I Have A Dream” spoken at the date of August 28 1963

:”I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”

Leader of the civil rights movement

MLK’s Speech was on desegregation, equality and abolishing racism.

He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership.

Oliver Brown and Linda Brown

Oliver Brown is known for taking the board of education to court to desegregate black people and white people.

Linda Brown was a student who was not able to enter the school that her friends attending based on the colour of her skin. Oliver Brown was outraged by the fact that his little girl cannot go to the school they wanted only because of the colour of their skin.

Oliver Brown took the board of education to file a lawsuit to have the schools desegregated.

Rosa Parks is an activist known for against racial segregation

She’s most known for her Civil rights movement. Rosa Parks’s movement was the boycott of the racial segregation on the Montgomery bus. 

She refused to surrender her seat when it was referring to her race.

The Apartheid (1948 to 1994) in South Africa was the racial segregation under the all-white government of South Africa which dictated that non-white South Africans (a majority of the population) were required to live in separate areas from whites and use separate public facilities.

Nelson wanted to eliminate the Apartheid and make sure the whites and blacks were not segregated but worked together 

Nelson Mandela had brought peace to a split country and eliminated the Apartheid 

 

Nelson Mandela had fought against the Apartheid which was for white supremacy. They had split people racially  Non‐white South Africans were second‐class citizens with little or no political power.

Nelson Mandela was the first African leader to be elected by the people, even having a history of being jailed in prison.

He had debolished the Apartheid which promotes white supremacy.

Kate Sheppard

Born in Liverpool, England in 1847, moved to Christchurch New Zealand in 1868. She married Walter Sheppard in 1871 at the age of 24. 

Birthdate: 10 March 1847 

She was an Activist 

Kate believed that women should be included in all aspects of life.

In 1885 she joined the WCTU (Women’s Christian Temperance Union) Their objective was to restrict the sale of alcohol. 

Kate Sheppard had found her passion about women having the right to vote in New Zealand. 

 

She was the leader of the Women’s Suffrage movement 

Her campaign was successful and New Zealand was the first country to give women the right to vote. 

 

Now Kate Sheppard is on New Zealand’s $10 Dollar note. Kate Sheppard’s portrait has graced the New Zealand ten dollar note since 1992
